Another Desert Sun employee sentenced to probation, community service

Source: The Oregonian, Portland, Ore.迷你倉最平Oct. 03--A federal judge on Thursday sentenced the fourth defendant of the Desert Sun Development Inc. bank fraud scheme to 5 years of supervised probation and 500 hours of community service.U.S. District Court Judge Ann Aiken in Eugene also ordered Michael Wilson, 62, of South Carolina, to pay restitution of $300,000. Wilson was a former residential construction superintendent for the failed Bend developer and builder.Wilson pleaded guilty in 2010 to one count of bank fraud. He admitted to relying on a false application to get a $500,000 home loan for his wife that they couldn't afford, court records show. Wilson eventually defaulted on the loan from Countrywide Bank, now Bank of America.Wilson on Thursday declined comment through his attorney, Bill Sharp.Desert Sun built properties across central Oregon from 2004 to 2008, until a series of loan frauds toppled it. In all, 13 people have been indicted on charges of conspiracy, bank fraud, wire fraud, mo迷你倉ey laundering and making false statements to financial institutions. Prosecutors say the crimes caused more than $19 million in losses to banks.In 2011, U.S. District Judge Michael Hogan ordered Del Barber Jr. to serve 15 months in jail and pay $200,000 in restitution. Barbara Hotchkiss and Garret Towne were sentenced to probation and community service and ordered to pay restitution, Bradford said. They also were barred from working in the mortgage industry.Robert M. Brink, a former building inspector for Umpqua Bank also indicted in the case, is set to be sentenced Oct. 16, said U.S. assistant attorney Scott Bradford.The remaining defendants -- Shannon Egeland, Jeremy Kendall, Teresa Ausbrooks, John Partin, Shaun Little, Tyler Fitzsimons and Jeffrey Sprague -- are scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 11 and 12 in Eugene.-- Brent HunsbergerCopyright: ___ (c)2013 The Oregonian (Portland, Ore.)
