'Rude' HK reporters feel APEC's anger

Hong Kong reporters may be loud but they're certainly not rude.mini storage That's the opinion of the Hong Kong Journalists Association which said they sometimes have to shout out their questions as they are held a long distance from those they want to interview. The defense came as staff at the APEC meeting in Bali confiscated the press credentials of reporters from RTHK, Commercial Radio and Now TV who tried to question Philippine President Benigno Aquino on the hostage crisis in which eight Hong Kong residents died three years ago. The reporters shouted out their questions as Aquino walked into one of the conference rooms surrounded by a dozen of security guards. "Sir, will you meet CY Leung?" a male reporter asked. "Why don't you respond to the Hong Kong officials?" "Will you apologize?" another asked. ''Please answer the q迷你倉estion!" Aquino ignored the questions and walked away. Shortly after, the reporters' press credentials were confiscated and they were not allowed into the conference room. "Don't you have any decency? Don't you know it's rude to shout," one female APEC staff member told a reporter. "You have no decency. Now get out!" Another staff member said: "You have embarrassed one of our visitors." RTHK expressed regret at the incident and is following up the matter with the Information Services Department. Now TV also expressed regret and asked the government to assist in getting back its reporter's press credentials. The HKJA said it is the "bounden duty" of reporters to ask questions, adding: "Confiscating press credentials is rude."
